How Hangry Joe's Came to Be

It started in a small kitchen in Tennessee with a single obsession: crafting hot chicken that actually means business. Founder Joe — a self-proclaimed heat-seeker with a culinary background — spent years perfecting his signature spice blend, testing batch after batch until every bite delivered exactly the kind of bold, layered heat he'd been chasing his whole life.

"I wasn't trying to build a restaurant. I was just trying to feed a craving nobody else was satisfying. Turns out a lot of people were just as hangry as me."

What started as weekend pop-ups at local markets quickly grew into something bigger. The lines got longer. The word spread faster. And before long, hangry joes became a proper brick-and-mortar destination right in the heart of Hermitage, Tennessee.

The original hangry joe himself. With 15 years in Southern cuisine, Joe built this restaurant on a love of heat and an obsession with perfecting every detail of his signature hot chicken recipe.

Operations Manager

Maria keeps everything running like a well-oiled (and well-seasoned) machine. From supply chain to shift scheduling, she ensures every service is seamless and every guest experience is exceptional.

Darius brings a fine-dining background to a hot chicken kitchen — and the result is magic. He's responsible for developing new menu items and making sure every plate that leaves the kitchen is worthy of the Hangry Joe's name.

The History of Hangry Joe's

From a backyard experiment to a full-blown hot chicken institution — here's how we got here.

2016

The Spark

Joe Harrison begins experimenting with hot chicken recipes in his home kitchen in Hermitage, Tennessee. Friends and neighbors quickly become obsessed, and word starts spreading.

2018

First Pop-Up

Hangry Joe's launches its first pop-up stall at a local Nashville-area food market. The line wraps around the block on opening day. The concept is validated, and the vision becomes real.

2019

Brick & Mortar Opens

The first Hangry Joe's restaurant opens its doors at 3883 Lebanon Pike, Hermitage. Within three months, it earns its first local food media feature and a loyal following.

2020

Adapting & Growing

During a challenging year for the restaurant industry, Hangry Joe's pivots quickly to online ordering and contactless pickup, building a digital customer base and emerging stronger than ever.

2022

Menu Expansion

Darius King joins as Executive Sous Chef. The menu expands to include signature sandwiches, tenders, sides, and the legendary hangry joe's hot chicken family meal boxes.

2024

National Recognition

Hangry Joe's is featured in multiple national food publications and voted one of the best hot chicken spots in the United States. The brand's digital presence grows to over 50,000 monthly visitors.
